Live From Antarctica: Sunday December 21

It's summertime! Even the weather is nice.... Since it's Sunday, we have gone out on a walk in the "windscoop" to tour the newcomers around the local sites. As could be expected, they were in awe. A beautiful Sunday it was, although some spent it in the office. Johan had requisitioned a large part of the mess tent (only place where there is enough flat surface to be able to lay out all of his sketches) and had called upon the field team to establish the situation and the planning of the week to come.

Alain called this afternoon: they have arrived in Crown Bay, but with a mechanical incident to one of the Prinoth tractors. It had to be abandoned 40 km away from the coast. Although this will not tie down the unloading work, having one Prinoth less to work with means that the "fast" return trip which was planned for one of the Prinoth tractors will not be able to bring back "urgent" supplies to base camp. Having said that, we are all extremely adaptable and there is of course a plan B to keep us busy anyway!
